The Cinematika Festival, is a new music and film event. The first edition took place in Gdańsk, Poland on November 20-22, 2020. The festival is dedicated to film music, composers, performers – music artists, but also filmmakers themselves. As part of the first edition of the festival, there were three film music concerts and film screenings in four sections.
Due to pandemic constraints, the first edition was held online only. The concerts were broadcast from the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater and from the area of historical Imperial Shipyard.
The main protagonist of the first edition of the festival was the Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, one of the most talented European composers of contemporary and film music, who tragically died two years ago. His music was played by Nanook of the North: Piotr Kaliński and Stefan Wesołowski. The festival program also included films for which Jóhannsson wrote music.
The second edition of the festival is planned for June 2021. This time taking place in real. One of its new elements will be a new, international music video / short music feature competition.
